Interviews: Tiger Anson Hu promotes new album “大一號 GROW”

November 21, 2012 (Updated: April 2nd, 2013) - It's Anson Hu | Tiger Hu | Hu Yanbin' s new album promotional period. He is currently busy promoting on shows, radios, and much more! What is his motivation and meaning behind 大一號 GROW?

Different interviews cover different information. If he repeats the same information on a second interview, I will skip the topic. I assure that you will not read the same info twice. I have added a topic/summary line to guide you, and I will write in his narration for all interviews. Sentence structure and grammar have been modified from Anson's original tone for easy reading and flow.
*Note: Anson is actually quite cheerful and is in a happy-go-lucky mood for all his interviews. He loves to make jokes and laugh.

I personally found Anson to be the same person through these years, even though he makes different statements with every new album, and changed his style and even his English name, but he's still the same old Anson! :D I also found it really hard to hold my tears while listen to him, he doesn't have the same attitude as "Who Cares?" he's much more softer now, just like his older days.

Old interviews towards the bottom, newer on top.

Here are the song titles and translations for easy reference.

SIX. Interview with Shangdu.com

Interview date: March 26, 2013

Anson's outfit and hair makes him look really cute! I enjoyed listening to this interview because he didn't try to put on his Beijing accent! :) The way he talks makes it seem like he is much more mature than his age, he's only 29!

Highlights!

Music has no grading system

Anson: It's really up to the audience to judge what they like. Music cannot be graded. It's not like athletics. Athletics has point system, and can be measured. Everyone can personally like, judge, and select the music that is closest to their heart, and the music that they can make a strong connection with.

This 8th album is Anson's last physical album

Anson: The director of Dangdang.com (online album distributor) said that my album may be the last physical album that their company will promote. I am actually surprisingly happy to hear. I think it will be easier because of the forward moving and changing society. With the physical album, as a musician, I like to produce everything and I find it fun and high, so it's all good. It will be depressing for some people because they feel that they can enjoy the music more by listening to the music in the CD player while reading lyrics at the same time.

Love is hard to set boundaries

Anson: With love, it's very mysterious. It's really hard to pinpoint, like to draw a rectangle, or draw a shape around it. Of course I want get married, but if you keep thinking or dreaming about it, it's not helpful at all. Effort cannot help love at all.

 FIVE. Interview with NetEase

Interview date: December 4th, 2012

If you understand Mandarin, with this interview, he used a Beijing accent and I found it really hard to listen to. He looks really exhausted during the whole interview, poor Anson, he's working too hard. :(

Highlights!

No one will ever hear anger or rage from his music.

Anson: I've always felt a different energy about rock music because the lyrics are very important. I've always wanted to do rock music without anger, just like my album. Inside, its all about the chasing ideals and dreams. I also think that rock music best represents me, and the me that is 30 years old. It allows me to energy to represent what's buried inside me.

Anson fell in love with rock music since a teenager.

Anson: I loved rock music since I was a teenager. I used to listen to Navana, U2, and many more. I would always lift my head while listening because I felt a ray of sunlight shining a light at me. Rock music is like love and peace, not rage and anger. I did experiment with rock when I was a teenager, but it's just messing around, it's not professional at all. Now, I have an entire band.

.... more to come......

 FOUR. Interview with Tudou

Interview Date: November 15th, 2012

Introduction

Anson: "大一號 GROW" is an inspirational album. Dreams need to get bigger, rock volume need to get louder, and confidence needs to increase. This album is split in 2 parts, the first half and the second half. If we were back in the tape era, then it would be like side A and side B. This is because the first half of the album is the me that you're all familar with: the me singing ballads (love songs). The second half of the album is the me that I like: the me singing rock (love, peace, and inspiration). I am still in a state of "GROW" state. We aren't born knowing everything.

"One Size Bigger" suit is like a slogan

This whole album and style fits into one big concept, it's like a slogan. I want everyone to be able to recognize that it's our band, GROW by the clothing that we wear. It's like a symbol. If you see me in one size bigger, then you know that I've become the lead singer for GROW and I will start to sing rock.

Everyone has double personalities

For an example, Hulk. He has a kind side and an angry side. Why did I smash the guitar during my album launch party? I am not happy with the media. If you want to talk to me about music, I am very welcoming, but most people don't talk about music, they criticize my style, and other irrelevant things. Smashing the guitar is like releasing my emotion buried within me, on stage. It's like a stage act.

Anson ends off by singing several lines of 《在一起》

THREE. Interview with CITYFM

Interview Date: November 10th, 2012

Anson gets a chance to DJ for 1 hour and he introduces 2 of his songs and he recommends a few other songs to his listeners.

His introduction to 愛情是怎麼了

See the interview below, I have already covered it.

His words about 在一起

Anson: I composed this song after my 30th birthday. I took time to reflect the major events in live, and I signed up for online dating. Most people think it's weird, and call me crazy. It's simple to understand my thinking. I've been working and living in a limited circle of friends, so I want to expand my circle. I am lucky enough to survive a car accident, so my family and friends are giving me pressure to form my family. And I think it's time too. A lot of people are waiting, but perhaps they haven't noticed the person beside them. With this song, I'm encouraging people to get together and be together. They should hold onto each other hand and not let go.

TWO. Interview with Beijing Music Radio FM97.4

Interview Date: November 9th, 2012

Anson starts tearing after the radio host briefly reviews his 10 years in musical productions

(The radio host reviewed his 10 years in music. She played one song from each of his 8 albums, and several soundbites of his speeches. He started tapping his feet to his own songs in the beginning, but as he listened he started to soften, and to the point where he couldn't hold his tears. )
Anson: Wow, I'm so touched, my God. I can't suppress it anymore. I'm so happy, I'm so sorry. This is my first time on a live radio show. Too many memories. My happiest thing in my life is music, but sometimes it gives me too much stress. Then this stress is then magnified many many times. I'm someone who can easily be touched. If I hear these things, I will cry.

Half the album is dedicated to fans, the other half is to himself

Anson: I'm not completely changing styles. I play with rock music because there's always different music that can represent our words at a different age. The first half is dedicated to you because it's the me that you're all familiar with, and the second half is dedicated to myself because it's the music I want to make. When I was younger, I had lots of good luck. I'm a very simple minded person. Music was the easiest way to make me happy, and once I make music, I forget about small problems in my life; however, as I grew older, my most loved became the root of my problem and stress. Any composer has problems about balancing between commercialized music and the music they want to make. Until this album, I finally realized that I can split it half, half.

Conflict always resides in any music composer

Anson: There are not that many people left in the music industry that still have the power to continue to fight and make the music they like. I'm not saying that commercialization is bad. There always has to be commercialization because we will learn something from each other. I am just really relieved that there's the second part of my album for me to experiment with.

Friends call him "lao hu," but fans and mom still him "bin bin"

Anson: My band is 'GROW,' like growing up. If you add an 'L,' it becomes 'growl,' like the tiger growling. Yes, it is true that my friends call me 'lao hu' (his last name plus the word 'old,' can mean 'Tiger'), but it's not because I'm getting old, they have called me that since I was young. Don't worry, my fans and my mom still call me 'bin bin' so you can continue to call me that, even when I'm old!

《愛情是怎麼了》 was written for his ex-girlfriend a few years ago

Anson: I wrote the lyrics to this song a few years ago after I broke up with my ex-girlfriend. I didn't modify the lyrics, but it was what I felt in a female's perspective during that time. I recorded it as a demo and put it in my demo library. A company worker went through my demos, picked it out, and wanted me to release it for this album. A few years ago, we both liked each other, but we were too young to decide, that's why we broke up.

Other random facts mentioned in interview:

* Anson's first ever single is《瑪麗蓮夢露 (Marilyn Monroe)》released at the age of 16.
* His concerts will take place next year, a country-tour around China.
* He will only sing his rock songs if he brings along his band GROW, or if the place allows him to bring his
band. He wants his audience to have a full-on live band experience.

ONE. Interview with 911pop.com

Interview Date: November 8th, 2012

This radio interview with Anson allows him to give a brief introduction to his song before it is aired over the radio.

"It's Up To You!"

Anson: "大一號 GROW" extends the idea from previous album: during the age of records, music was highly respected. Now in this decade, one MP3 can hold up to thousands of songs. Honestly, not many people take the time to really pay attention to the details of one song.
With this album, you can choose whatever you like. The me that you prefer, or the me that I prefer. It's up to you.

Intro to 三十而立

Anson: This is an electronic-rap-rock song. When a person reaches 30, they will have different thinking, especially for men. It's represents responsibility, and stability. I've reached that stage and I know what I want. I call it 'addition and subtraction.' When we are young in our 20s, we want everything. The truth is, you can't have everything, so when you reach a certain age, you need to learn how to 'subtract' and pick and choose what is best for yourself.

Intro to 搖滾天生大一號

Anson: Dreams need to get bigger, rock music need to get louder, and teenagers need to have more persistence. This is an inspirational song. When we step into the society, there is always pressure and stress. There are things you want to be persistence with, but many people forget their goal along the way, so it's always best to review.

ONE song represents ONE type of emotion.

Anson: My entire album is filled with different types of feelings and emotions, each song represents something different. For an example, if you are getting married soon, or just got together with a boyfriend, then listening to a very sweet song, 《在一起》 works, but if you're currently working towards your dream, then 《搖滾天生大一號》and 《沉默的大多數 》 can be encouraging to you, and if you're heartbroken, you might find some relieve in the song, 《愛情是怎麼了》.

Intro to 《大夢想家》

Anson: You are lucky person to have any type of dream. Most people have to sacrific something in order to achieve their dream. Dream VS. reality always conflicts with each other. It's very rare that people can find their dream and reality to be the same, if do, they must be one lucky man! If anyone has the courage to sacrifice something to find their dreams, they they're good.

His words about 《江湖再見》

This song and 《我以為》 are two songs that I wrote for my friend. They're the theme and sub song for Mainland ancient-comedy series 龍門鏢局.

A random fact mentioned in interview:

* A total of 7 music videos will be released. Anson will direct his own MVs!

Radio Interviews: Anson Hu [ Take A Stand At Thirty ]

July 20th, 2012 - Anson Hu received a series of 6 interviews in 6 different radio stations that aired across Mainland, Taiwan, and HK (each around 30 minutes long).

I have listened to all 6 (spent about 2.5 hours), made a summary of the important points mentioned by Anson in each interview, and then combined into a large summary to share with you all!

Translated by ear. Dialogue written in Anson's narration, unless otherwise stated.

The '9 weibo shots'
I was waiting to take the plane from Zhenzhou back to Beijing. Since there was a delay in the plane, I was so bored, so I decided to do some self portraits. I said I would erase it once the plane takes off. I took 9 shots and I posted it, but after 10 minutes, the plane was ready to take off, so I erased it, but it looks like many fans have already saved a copy of it!

Anson's DJ fan named "duo le si"
DJ tells Anson: This DJ is a super fan of yours. During her show, she would always play your songs, and she would especially personally buy your albums and then send them to her DJ friends in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Seriously, online dating?
I did register my name for online dating. I am 30 years now, I realized that I haven't gotten anywhere, so I decided to register thinking that I might get some new chances. I want to try it out! It's not true that I never dated before 30, it's just that I haven't found the right one. I wish to find someone who understands me.

Within a few days, I received 2000 messages and I read each one. Most of the messages were wishes, they wished me good luck and wished that I will be able to find my other half. Then some messages were simply notes saying, "I know it's not possible, but it's nice to see you on here, wish you well." Most people aren't the type to stand up and tell me, "Anson, I want to be your other half," or "Can we meet, I am interested in you."

I wanted to take a chance to stand up, there are times when I had sunglasses or covering my face, but I am really serious. However, I think that most people think that I am playing around. I want to tell people that I am serious about looking for another half, I am thirty years old, and I wish for an opportunity to meet new people.

The type of girl Anson looks for...
She must have very kind, very sweet, be obediant, has strong desire for filial piety. Must be the type that will take care of my mother. Someone who loves my strengths, but will accept my weakness. In terms of physical attraction, it has to be the type that I am physically attracted to.

"Take A Stand At Thirty"
You will find that this song is completely different from other songs in my previous albums. I actually wanted to give myself a present with my own efforts. I want to write a song for myself, and I did the whole composition by myself. I wanted to try a different style, and I wanted to put my personal feeling into. I wrote this song purposely for myself, it isn't KTV material, however, if you can sing with song in karaoke, I have to say that your singing ability is likely really impressive. The lyrics in the song reflect my current thinking.

Car accident means major change in life??
I think it has to do with both my age and accident. I started to realize that when I am helpless, any type of love and caring would magify by a few times. I also started to realize that I didn't have someone to take care of me. When I reached 30 years old, I really have a lot of hope and I want to start my own family. That's why I decided to use another way, so I signed up for online dating! I am serious, I am not playing around.

New album coming soon?
I think my new album would be around october, november, and "Take A Stand At Thiry" would be part of it, but I first released it as a single. For my new album, I would say I have will some new styles since I have moved on from the 20s, there will be differences in my expression of music because after all, I am in a different style in live. Before 30, we have always been chasing after our dream, but now, when I have reached 30, I am more clear about what I want in life. Even in the future, I would focus within Mainland China because afterall, it is my homeland.

Music makes Anson happy.
In the end, as of right now, I am still really happy and is very enthusiastic about making music. I am still most happy with making music.

The great director Hu?
For every phase in life, I have a different dream. I am the type of person who is constantly learning, and if I stop, I will feel uncomfortable. I want to try to direct some short films, do my own music videos, and when the time is right, I want to be able to direct my own movie. I enrolled into Beijing Film Academy. I went to New York to study film, so I wanted to come back and study film directing. I feel that having knowledge from both sides would be very interesting.

Interview: Anson talks about charity and his new album

May 27th, 2012 - Anson Hu's exclusive interview with QQ video.

I love Anson's expressions. He has a kind heart, and you can tell by the way he speaks! He also admits that he doesn't know how to talk in his Weibo (micro-blog), he says there nothing is more important than his efforts and actions towards charity.

Summary (not word to word translation)

Reporter: Did you especially come to Smileangel Foundation Dinner, do you have anything to say?

Anson: Tonight I especially came to see the entrepreneurs. I think that celebrities are here to give extra support, and to help entrepreneurs earn more money for charity. I feel that by participating, it is like a step of action towards charity, and one step closer to helping other people.

Reporter: You are type of person who likes to do charity work. Last year because of charity work, you got into car accident, how is recovery now?

Anson: All is going well. I believe that good people have will have good repay. I'm starting to take more work now. It's good now, thank you for asking.

Reporter: A lot of fans and audience ask what you have been doing recently?

Anson: I am working on my new album. Other than attending major television events, I am usually sitting in my own recording room writing music.

Reporter: Can you tell us what kind of style this album is going to be?

Anson: I think more of a warm and cosy style.

Reporter: How do you see charity and celebrities together?

Anson: I feel that charity is something that each person has with their inner heart. It is something they have to realize within themselves. This is my first time participating with SmileAngel Foundation. I feel like I am still young, so I try my best to do charity related work. I feel that I am not able to handle such the pressure if something goes wrong.

Video interview: Anson Hu on G-Hits

December 7th, 2011 (Aired date: Dec 5, 2011) - Anson Hu accepts interview with G-Hits 金碟時尚.

Anson repeats many of the things he has said before. I will only translate the new information. If you want the full picture, please read previous interviews: interviews + news videos

Summary of highlights:

Anson dislikes recording shows!
Anson: Maybe it's because I've been out here for too long. My company is very supportive! I should really help with the promotion, but my job is to produce music and that's it! The sales statistics and everything else has nothing to do with me! Hahaha!
(I have a feeling that Anson is joking around!)

Anson feels that from <Men's Songs> to <Music Life>, it's not his own.
Anson: I am more able to talk about my new album because it's my own road, and my own feelings. For those last 2 albums, it is incorrect to say that I don't feel like that, but these feelings and the promotion is what my company has pushed into me. They were pushing me to produce such.

Anson's most angry moment: throwing stuff in his room.
Anson: I'm someone less likely to be angred easily, but if I do get angry, it is often scary. The scariest thing I have done was to throw stuff in my room. People usually don't see this. I have many things that would accumulate over time. Once I've accumulated enough, I would explode. When I'm at home, I am like almost going crazy! Hahaha

Host asks Anson how he feels about being criticized.
Anson: I believe that teenagers have something they want to do best. Always know your limits, don't ask for too much. I feel that sometimes by achieving the best male singer, etc, will always give me too much pressure, and other things. People will always give me encouragement, but will also give me negative feedback or comments. I will always have to think about it.

Anson talks about his views about his happiness.
Anson: I will give an example of opening a small business. Everyday, you will be involved in the process of the business, and during that time, will you feel happy? You probably will earn lots of money in the process, but are you enjoying the process, or are you happy? Similar with me, I really don't feel like money is all that important. Especially since I've missed out a lot while trying to strive and to push forward. I feel that I am happy right now because I love music. No matter how hard it is, I will always enjoy and to suffer past the hardship. Also, I have been interested in film making. These things will give me a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment.

Anson gives himself 70 points for acting!
Anson: My first time, I would give myself 50 points, but after I had a chance to re-dub myself again. I felt that my tone of voice and pronouciation has improved, so I would give myself 70 points. I would probably not want to become an actor, but more likely as a director!

Video interview: Anson Hu Talks Filming Prospects with Letv!

November 23, 2011 (Aired date: Nov 21, 2011) - Anson Hu accepts an exclusive interview with Letv.com 樂視娛樂.

Snippets of the interview were presented in the beginning along with the narrator. I won't be translating that because Anson will eventually repeat everything again later!

Anson's dialogue only:

Hello to all Letv audience and friends, my name is Anson hu!

Introduction to his new album.
My recent released album is called <Who Cares?>, and it has been 2 years since another release. This album has many different styles and music elements. I completed the whole album in New York and I put a lot of thought and energy into. I call this album: my attitude creation. Each and every song talks about teenage thinking. The speciality of this album is the attitude and the different viewpoints presented. I also jokingly tell everyone that this is the new societal attitude, and I feel that there is a certain power in music to present this.

I am not exaggerating, but I spent 1.36 million dollars (Yuan) and people ask me: who is still brave enough to spend this much on their album? Musicians and people call me crazy since people usually think that others should really care about their return and income. For us musicians, there is always a goal and an ideal. Producing good music is very important. It's like holding a fist to speak. Sometimes no matter how well you are able to convey it, it's not useful. The most important part is that you can actually speak it out! That's why to a musician: quality music is the key.

<女人不該讓男人流淚 Women Should Not Let Men Cry>
The song talks about the situation in a relationship: it is always the men who is wrong. I felt that is unfair and unreasonable. I can use an analogy to describe it. If a men has many girls, he would be described as playboy, but if a girl has many guys, the world to describe the girl would sound really bad. Are you saying that guys don't want to feel secure or want a home? I feel that this song can represent many guys.

I get a lot of inspiration from a quiet and dynamic type of environment. An example would be: sitting in a car but the car is moving. Or like sitting on plane. The plane is moving, but I am not. Then it would allow me a lot of room to think and to imagine.

<Life>
I was on a subway, a bus, a coffee shop, and in a park when I wrote this song. I felt that the noisy sounds in society would make us feel like we want to compose.

What Anson regards as Style.
Everyone has their own style. When you think about Jacky Cheung, he is always the king of love songs. Despite that he once had a messed up hair look and he does a bit of dancing, the image that pops up is the king of love songs. As musicians, we shouldn't be too greedy, we should do the best at our talent and it should be enough. Alan Luo is the best at dancing, that is why his dance songs are always his best. The audience always has their own right to select what they want.

I did a concert last time and I did a free-styled dance on stage. I felt that my fans were happy about it, but we all know that I was playing around. They all know what I am better at doing.

Anson ventures in film making!
I am fascinated with movies and I want to try it. I did use my MVs as a test, that is why all my MVs are self-directed. If I become a director one day, I don't think will ever be acting because I find it hard to multi-task. If I did both directing and acting together, it would be really hard to catch the main point.

My very first movie would probably be a teenager movie, I would not want start off doing something so old! We are talking about the production process now. That's why I can't discuss with you now. This is my first time as director and I don't have too much experience. I am looking for actors who are willing to cooperate and to give more time to me, like maybe 1-2 months. If those actors keep on running around, it would drive me crazy!

The coming 2012 for Anson.
Isn't Letv.com doing mini-film productions? I recently received many invititions to these mini-film productions. I am interested in it. If you're interested you can look for me! Haha

In 2012, my biggest wish is to finish filming my first movie. It's like, for movies, I like to do background work. People find it stupid, but I find it a lot of fun. However, I will never forget about music. When we talk about music, people are used to my voice and my production. I would not want to be like Jay Chou who will participate in filming movies. I am the type of person to do every step of the music production.

Video Interview: Anson Hu chats live with fans and friends on KanKan News

November 7, 2011 (Aired date: Nov 3, 2011) - This Kan Kan News' live video chat where Anson's fans and friends have an opportunity to call in the show to chat with him. This live video chat is called [Who Cares? Hu Cares!]

I will not be providing a word-to-word translation, but rather a summary of the important points that Anson and guests has made on the show. This is a 60 minute long video interview!

Summary of Important Events in Video Interview:

Anson talks about his feelings after returing from New York
Anson: Upon return, I felt more relaxed. It's been 10 years in the industry, and after a while, I felt lost. I wanted travel to an unfamiliar place to gain some new inspiration. During the time I was in New York, I was like any other person. No one recognizes me and I could once again feel like a student. This type of feeling is important to me. I felt that I needed to fix my attitude because after a while, my inspirations and feelings stay the same. I haven't stepped up or moved forward. I have been stuck in the same place by doing similar things. Since I am still young, I wanted to challenge myself, and to go somewhere else.

The interest of learning about a movie director was always there. I wanted to see another perspective. I realized that I cannot drop my life, nor my work. When I was younger, I was like any other teenager who always wanted to do the best, and just wanted to move forward. Now, I realize that moving straight ahead would leave out many important things along the way.

Anson felt that getting a lot of acheievements isn't all that great.
Anson: A person should live and understand why they have become who they are. Like my new album, every song has a story behind it, and before, my music was written for the purpose of making an album. With that, you would then realize that you can only see surface of the song, and you won't be able to relate it to life. There isn't a story behind my old music.

Lyricist Ning Cai-Shen Calls In
Anson: In my new album, I wanted some kind of change. Through talking with Ning Cai-Shen, I realized that he has a lot that people and I can learn from. He has never written lyrics for anyone because he claims it to be troublesome. Finally one day, he surprised me with 3 songs!

Ning Cai-Shen: Usually people would write a song then lyrics; however, Anson is great since he allowed me room to write whatever I want, then he would compose the song to fit my lyrics. When i wrote <One Night in Shanghai>, it was based on the experiences and adventure of my friend who came to Shanghai. In general, I felt that the style in Beijing is very tough compared to Shanghai, which is more soft and flexible.

Anson: I took it as a challenge because his lyrics aren't written purposely for a song. He is also a famous script editior, when you read his lyrics, you can see the actual illustration. He is very strong, influential, and inspirational. What you see what he has to offer, you will feel like you want to pay him.

A fan asks: What do you feel is the difference between Shanghai and Beijing?
Anson: Beijing isn't the place where I grew up, but it is where I work, and it is the bluace where I built up my circle of friends. In Shanghai, I feel like it's home, I know everything that is there, and I am highly familiar with the place there.

A fan named Jin Jin Calls In
Jin Jin asks: How many points would you give yourself for your concert, and do you feel like you need to change for your upcoming concerts?

Anson: I would give myself 80 points, even though the seats were all filled. I felt that for the second half of the concert, I shouldn't have talked too much. There is talking after each song. I felt that if I talk too much, there isn't enough time for my audience to be caught in the mood. During recording, I didn't feel like I had that many high notes, but during my live concert, I finally felt it, and it's tiring! Most people would lower their key for concerts, but I would never want to.

Anson talks about his future love prospects.
Anson: In this new album, the songs are my real stories. I am more open and honest. To be honest, I am single. I like girls who are very generous, show filial obedience to their parents. I feel that it's important for girls to care about their family. About my interest in a girl's appearance: I like to look at thier legs first, then butt, their face, and finally their hair. Actually, we really have to talk about fate. Sometimes when we talk about first impressions, sometimes I would give someone 90 percent, but another person I might give then 150 percent. It really depends on who it is. I am someone more traditional, so I would like my future partner to be someone who is Chinese.

Shanghai's TV show host: Juliet, Calls In
Anson: We had the same teacher. I think she's very pretty.

Juliet: Anson is someone very talented, and he's very good as a host too! During the wedding that we both attended, he was the host. If you're talking about music, during the time period when he sang songs for [Wo Wei Ge Kuang 我為歌狂], he was always someone who is sensitive about music, and he is very talented and creative.

Anson talks about [Wo Wei Ge Kuang 我為歌狂]
Anson: During that time period, Wo Wei Ge Kuang is an anime that was written and produced by China, and it was very successful. Even right now, I don't think there are any other anime that has suprassed it. There might be, but they aren't the same nature. Since during that time, someone had recommended me to sing because I had recently signed a contract. It was through this anime that many fans had recognized me.

Anson's Pan teacher Calls In
Pan teacher: Anson is very smart and he is someone that has a lot of spirit. He learned Heitou, which is a special singing technique that I taught, and he learned it really well. I tried to look for him, but he kept changing his phone number. Now I finally have the chance to speak to you, I will contact you soon again to talk about a new years concert!

A fan asks: Why is <Little Wish 小小的心願> so different from your other songs?
Anson: I don't need to write a song that is very grande. I believe that teenagers always have a wish and maybe there will be a chance for it to grow even bigger. So with this song, I want to encourage teenagers to go for their wish.

Anson talks about how his first movie came about.
Anson: The director and editor are my good friends. I dont know too much about my role in the movie, and I simply just agreed. I was very interested in participating because since I studied movie director, I wanted to compare the difference between the film directing in New York and in China. There are large differences between acting and movie directing.

A fan named Bingaen Calls In
Bingaen asks: Are you going to be doing a Shanghai concert? Will you be releasing a DVD?

Anson: Shanghai is going to be the last concert. Then we will probably release a DVD because it's going to be my best one. With the DVD, you should be able to buy the DVD anywhere. If I ever open a concert in the US, it would probably be in Chinatown!

Video Interview: Anson Hu accepts Yin Yue Tai interview after his new album press conference

October 4th, 2011 (Interview date: Sept 19, posted date: Oct 1st) - I wonder why it took Yin Yue Tai a good 2 weeks before they posted the whole interview.

The introduction of the video is interesting: it shows Anson experiencing the lounge of Yin Yue Tai before he accepts the interview. You can see him actually watching his own MV and happily playing ping pong. After that, you'll see people setting up the stage for his interview.

Highlights of the Interview:

He explains his vacation to New York.
Anson: I am very happy because I was to be able to go somewhere else for my vacation. It has allowed me to let go of everything, and to travel to a city that I really like. There, I was given the opportunity to study. I am very happy, since it allows me time to think and refect back, and it gives time to think about my future.

Anson is the first Chinese celebrity to be invited to visit the United Nations.
Anson: I was very lucky to be invited by the leader of the United Nation and I was able to enter the building to participate in their meeting. It is very spectacular, very grande, and very impressive. To be able visit the building and to stand at the podium means a lot, especially since I am coming from China.

He talks about girls in New York and girls in general.
Anson: Girls at school are very enthusiastic. Their personalities are very open and very nice. There are a lot of beautiful girls at school. Since it's a film school, we often have to search online for actors, etc, since we have to do a lot of "open casting" and projects for school. If you are asking me what I like about a girl's personality, I like girls who are very generous, and have filial obedience for parents, which are most important. If you ask about appearance, I first look at their legs, then waist, butt, face, then breasts.

After that, the interviewer strikes and says: "Aren't you shallow?!?!"
Anson gives an awkward face and says: "Don't we all look at this for first impression?!?!"

Anson opens up his physical album and talks about his new album.
Anson: For my new album, I decided to go with a vinyl records style. It is not an actual vinyl record, so it has a CD embedded in a fake record. In these technological days, people will own an Ipod and there will be thousands of mp3, so people treat music differently now than back in the days. They don't care about music as much as they used to. To present my music with a vinyl record style, represents my form of respect for music.

He talks about his new filming experience in [First President].
Anson: In the past, there were many directors who had invited me to film a movie, but I refused. However, this time is special because I returned from film directing in New York, then my friend, who is also a director, invited me for a cameo performance. I accepted his invitation without question because I really wanted to see how they do the shooting process. I was very curious and wanted to see the difference between filming here and in New York. The filming process was very fun and funny! I caused many other actors to laugh at me because they're used to seeing me as a singer and not an actor. When I tried really hard to put up a serious face, everyone laughs at me! Also when everyone is taking a break from acting, they would request for me to sing a song for them. They all like <men's KTV>, so I would take the megaphone and sing the song with it. It's very fun.

@ 10:37 Anson improvises a short Rap.
Anson raps:
I've come to Yin Yue Tai;
I brought my new album;
With a lot of feelings,
From New York to Beijing;
This album is called Who Cares;
You must listen to it!

Anson talks about his recent collaboration with Moraynia Liu 劉忻.
Anson: About a couple years ago, I met her on a show, but I didn't remember this incident until my fans linked me with the videos again. I feel that she is a very domineering person on stage and she has an attitude that is very clear. I can tell from speaking with her, and from her eye contact.

@ 12:34 Anson picks 2 fans to come on the show.
Notice how the girl sits too close to Anson, making him lean towards his right side. He claims that he is trying to lose weight, so he refuses to eat. He gives his female fan and male fan a hug, and feeds them both!!!

Female fans says: Ever since the first impression, I had always liked Anson. I liked him since 10 years ago.
Interviewer asks: What was the first song that you like?
Female fan says: <Beautiful Women 紅顏|Hong Yan>, then <Waiting for You>
(What is wrong with that? If I liked him 10 years ago, maybe I would like maybe the song <Marilyn Monroe> or something right? hehe)

The guy sings a few lines of <One Night in Shanghai>.
The girl sings a few lines with Anson of <Waiting for You>.

Anson introduces his upcoming concert.
Anson: My concert is coming up and it's called "Tiger Roars" concert. This concert is not the traditional type of concert where I would sing one song, then talk, and then another song. Rather this concert would have a story, or a theme type of concert. Laser lights will be used in the concert, and it will help create the setting, instead of using props. Since these are laser lights, you will see the object, but the object isn't really there, so it's kind of special. It's a must see!

<10,000 Light Years> MV is played at the end, and concludes the interview.

Interview: Anson Hu Promotes New Album on Sina

September 20, 2011 - There are at least 5 other interviews/shows that Anson has went on since the release of his new album <Who Cares?>. I will translate the ones containing the most information, and I will only translate new key information/answers/ideas from Anson. If you want the whole idea of Anson's responses, please see the previous interviews (Label: news / news videos/interviews).

Summary of the interview:
- Anson expresses that he hasn't changed too much upon return from the United States. After his long vacation, he feels fresh, and his attitude has definitely changed. He explains that when people have long working hours, they will have complaints, or mental fatigue. So he agrees that he needed to have a break and needed to recharge. Anson explains that he has worked for 10 years, and all he has been doing was to work hard for his ambition, to rush ahead, but along the way, he would miss out on a lot of stuff. He really needed a break, so he choose to stop for a bit, and headed to United States to learn something new.

- Anson finally had the chance to experience what people his age would experience: ride a subway, ride a bus, take a walk down the street, and to sit down for coffee. He explains that in this way, he would be able to feel how life is, and would be able to get inspiration for his new music.

- He created his whole new album: the name, music composition, ideas, and production was all done by him, so he believes that no one would better understand it than himself. For his press conference, he explains that he had treated the media, his fans, and everyone like his friends because he wants to tell us about his new creation.

- The interviewer opens up Anson's album and inside, there is a vinyl protective cover, and the cd is embedded inside a vinyl record! He believes that people back then, those who owned vinyl records had treated music seriously: one would save up pocket money, and then to finally select music at a record shop. Then with a lot of expectations, one would go home and to finally play it in their music player to enjoy the music. This type of experience was very enjoyable. He says: with the changing times, and technology development, we are not so picky about music anymore. The vinyl record is related to the theme of his album: Anson wishes that people would actually face music seriously.

- Anson actually told the media that he spent 1.36 million Yuan (around 200 thousand U.S. dollars) and has no element of corruption. His Chinese fans understand his concept and support him by saying "whatever kind of music you produce, we will listen to that kind of music." Anson explains that since has the opportunity to stand on stage, he would treat his music fans with full respect, and will produce the type of music that needs to inspire himself first.

- Anson explains how he was supposed to be holding a guitar in his album cover (a female guitar that is), and then in the back cover, there would be a naked female holding a guitar. His record company then took note of a study that was conducted by the Western people about an album that had album sales at #1 on charts. The band was not well known, the songs are not great, so how did they achieve #1 on charts for sales? The reason was because they had used a naked female as their album cover. This was very interesting, so Anson didn't receive approval for his original album cover.

- He then talks about his views of China VS United States: he thinks that people in the Chinese culture, whether its popular music or fashion, people should always have their own style. Anson explains that everyone thinks that no matter what, everything abroad would be the best. It's a problem because someone like himself actually recorded his whole entire album in New York since he felt that the recording studio was the best.

- Anson says that he was given a very good chance as a Mainland Chinese artist to work with foreigners, because then he can learn about their successful experiences. Through this, he has learned how to be more open, and to write about his own experiences instead of writing about other's experiences; hence in his new album, the songs speak his attitude.

- As practice, Anson now sings his daily diary entries on his computer, and he does it with a challenge: the suffix of each word would rhyme, without thinking. He has been doing this as an exercise, as an diary entry, and he hopes to be able to pick up a new skill.

- About the song <10,000 Light Years 一萬光年>: Anson wrote this song to illustrate what celebrities actually feel. He says it doesn't just represent his feelings, but rather many others out there, and he realizes that in the future, he could use another way or a point of view to get along.

- Anson claims that people wouldn't tell him about his work in front of him, so he would sneak online to view users comments and criticism. He believes that criticism is sincere, and he would be particularly willing to accept. He also thanks his fans for encouragement because it would give him even more courage to do more things in the future.

- Anson truthfully admits that he has no interest in an acting career. He believes that not everybody can do it. However, he releases information about his small cameo in [First President] and the film is being released pretty soon: he says it's pretty hard for him to act because he is always laughing. Since, the film setting is very serious, Anson always unintentionally makes everyone laugh.

- He exposes that his biggest dream in 2012 would be to become a film director, and he would work to direct his own movie. He explains that like his music, he would mix in many different elements together to make a very special and unique movie product for the audience.

- Anson talks about singing the cover version for the song <Scar 傷痕>: since the original version was sung by Sandy Lam, he comments that he didn't feel weird singing it because the original composer/producer is Jonathan Lee, and he believes the song was written in his perspective.

- He talks about how he "doesn't like camera self, but rather his true self." Most people actually mistook Anson's statement as someone who loves himself. However, he explains that under a video camera or film camera, there will always be video editing, or photoshopping, and it will never be real. What he actually likes, is his natural self: the unedited, animated, and live version of him.

- Anson ends off by talking about his upcoming concert. He expects to practice a breakthrough dance performance for his audience.

Video Interview: Anson Hu appears on FM87.6 Beijing Radio Show

September 14, 2011 - Anyone like Anson with glasses??? Can you tell from the video that Anson looks so exhausted? Yes, he was exhausted, and he wrote it on his microblog. Despite that, he manages to stay alive for an entire hour for the radio interview.

Summary of important topics:
- Anson talks about his wish to study in United States: He really wanted to take time off to think, since he wanted direction in his life. At first, he wanted to study music in Boston, but since Boston is a quiet and peaceful U.S. state, he went to New York instead. New York does offer more livelihood, and Anson wanted to get a "feel" of the social culture in United States. Other than studying music, he also studied film director in New York. (By the way, I forgot to mention that Anson has officially returned to China, he's no longer there).

- Anson expresses that studying a film director is different than studying music because film focuses on shooting a perspective. Music is more abstract, and there is more room for thinking. For film, there is a sense of direction, we either see the point, or we don't.

- About his lead single <LIFE>: the song talks about his experience as a singer in 10 years. He also attempts a different style: R&B rap. The radio host also compliments Anson for his clarity in singing rap. In most rap songs, we can't hear and can't understand what they are singing about. For Anson's <LIFE>, we can. Anson said it took him a while to write this song. He wrote parts of the song in different locations, and he changed it many, many times.

- 10 songs in Anson's new album, and took him 4 months to compile. He really wanted to express his attitude in this album. So the album is more "open," as his old music is more "traditional," and "closed minded." He said that from his old music, his fans, or friends can easily guess what he is up to because he would write his own personal/friends thoughts into music. This time, he wanted to try a more "open" style to music.

- About a song in his album <Scar 傷痕>: He produced a cover for the song, originally sang by Sandy Lam. He loved the song since a kid and he wanted to do a cover for it. Since the original version of this song was produced by a male, Anson felt that if a male sang the song, the "feeling" would be there, and he wouldn't need to make any modifications to the lyrics.

- Why is the album named <Who Cares>? Anson wants to know how many people in the music industry are really persistent about music? Many people ask him to write a song that would "hit" and be popular in the music industry. Anson expresses that if everyone wants to write a song that would be popular, what happened to the meaning of music?

- There are two different meanings to <Who Cares>: One is "Who actually still cares about music?" The other one is "Hu Cares," as in "Anson still cares." Anson claims that he will always be persistent about music.

- A fan comments that the song <LIFE> bring outs out a "fighting" spirit in people, and F brings tears to people. A fans asked Anson if he was going to have any "traditional Chinese style 中國風" songs in his new album. Anson responded that in certain songs, there will be a bit of it, like the song <Banquet 鴻門宴>, but of course, the new "traditional Chinese style" will be different from his old ones.

- Another fan asks if Anson can talk about his songs <Banquet 鴻門宴> and <If not a Fierce Dragon, would not cross the River 不是猛龍不過江>. Anson expressed that normally he would not release details until the formal release date, but he will make an exception and talk a bit about it now. <Banquet> is a story that the Chinese are familiar with. There is an dinner scene in the story where it can be compared to the society now, and it is expressed in his song. (I don't have a Chinese background, so I am not quite sure how it can be compared to society.) The song <If not a Fierce Dragon, would not cross the River> is from a Chinese perspective. Anson talks about his experience of going to New York, and people wouldn't recognize him. It's like, he can do his own stuff at his own pace and people wouldn't bother him.

- About the song <Ten Thousand Light Years 一萬光年>: Anson personally likes the song because the beats are different from what he usually does. He thanks and believes that through his friend, he has learned a different way of seeing life through his lyrics, which gives Anson meaning and spirit.

- Anson talks about how he likes to have preparation for anything he does. For instance, self-directing and filming MVs. Many of his friends would tell him that it's old and many people have done it before; however; Anson sees it as something special to him especially after his journey  from New York. Since he has officially learned film directing, there is a lot of fun and enjoyment involved especially when he actually understands the underlying processes: like adjustment of color, arrangement of frames, etc.

- Music will always remain as Anson's "most loved." His upcoming concert will be held in Beijing on October 22nd. His concert name is very unique as "Tiger roars 老虎叫." (When you break it up - 老 = Old (mandarin pronunciation: lao), 虎 = Tiger (Hu), 叫 = Calls/Roars (jiao). 虎 = Hu = Anson. So Anson is saying that he is roaring/singing with pride! Don't you love it???)
He has prepared around 30 songs and wants his audience to have a complete different, meaningful experience. His concert will be more heavily-weighted on his new songs because people haven't heard him perform them live before. He doesn't want to do the concerts like his old ones, and he refused to release the names of his guest singers.

Anson says he will always "add oil" to his music and thanks us for support.

Video Interview: Media Interview during Record Signing Ceremony

July 28th, 2011 - I have attempted an almost, word-to-word, translation of the interview. This interview has important upcoming updates about Anson!

Reporter: Anson, in today's setting, how come it looks like a school setting? I wanted to ask, when you were young, did you like to eat some kind of junk food?

Anson: I wonder if you, the media reporters, have noticed the junk food we have prepared for you? Today we're very happy to let you experience the feeling of the 80s school setting, classroom setting. Since I have signed with Yua Hua Music, the boss, and whole team of producers are people who were born after the 80s, so I believe these people should be encouraged and supported. I also hope that, we, the 80s generation, could produce music, and other things that would represent us, and make us proud.

Reporter: What about the new album, during the process, where there any changes?

Anson: Actually, the new album, all recording have been finished in New York. I believe, to have this kind of an opportunity to stay a long period of time, to experience the culture, and then to incorporate this to the new album, of course there would be a different feeling to it. As of right now, all I can tell you is that, I have tried a lot of new stuff that I have never tried before. That means, the next time you see my album, or when my new album is released, we will release the small details about how everything is decided. With everything being said, this album could have been released earlier, but there are background work that needs to be done, so it will be delayed until September. I guarantee that everyone will hear the new album in September.

Reporter: Would your concert have songs from the new album?

Anson: Yes, the concert would have songs from my new album. As of right now, the temporary date has been set at October 22nd in Beijing, and then December 25th in Shanghai. The future locations and arrangement will be decided later, so there should be a lot of new stuff for everyone to see.

Reporter: Has the schedule/run-down of the concert been decided?

Anson: The schedule hasn't been decided yet because we want to let everyone listen to the new album first, then we will fix accordingly, but most of the song list, rehershal, or directing should be started in August.

Reporter: Would there be any guests?

Anson: Of course there would be guests, I would especially invite many of my good friends to come to the concert.

Reporter: We have heard that you would record your own movie, is that right? Can you give us an introduction?

Anson: I have always been interested in filming, and this time in New York, I had a lot of time to learn. There is a different type of feeling there, since I am not in home country. There is a lot of freedom because when I am on the streets,  no one can recognize me, and I would feel like I have a lot of confidence. Everyday, a typical student's schedule would start at 9am and end at 11pm, that is why students have a very full and tight schedule. I am very interested, so that is why I studied "film director" and I want to make movies, like MVs. Yes, I think I would start the filming project with my album's MVs, and I would act and direct my own MVs. Everyone should expect to see my work by the end of this year.

Reporter: What is the theme of the movie?

Anson: As of right now, it's a secret. It hasn't passed through yet, so I can't say much about it, but we have started doing preparations for it. To use a movie to illustrate our thoughts/feelings is definitely something different.

Reporter: What about Han Geng's album that will be released in the end of the year....(couldn't hear the rest of the sentence from the reporter)

Anson: I have written a few songs for him, but I will respect his ideas; if he says the song fits his style, then we will use it. Since we are in the same company, there will be many future opportunities to work together.

Reporter: We know you went to U.S., can you share with us some playful classic stories, or was there a girl student that you particularly liked?

Anson: (laughs) Of course, I told them about the strengths of China, and I told them that I wish to invite them, my oversea classmates, to come to China. Many of my oversea classmates are all over the world, like England, United States, Korea, Japan, and I am very proud to talk to them about China. So I told them that if they wanted to come, I would treat them to food, and to take them around Beijing and Shanghai, the cultural cities.

Reporter: So do they know that you are an artist from Mainland China?

Anson: There are actually students from China, so in the beginning they didn't know, but later everyone found out. They even forced me to sing songs for them, things like that, I felt it was rather meaningful. They searched Youtube for my MVs, music, and information, and they even cropped and compiled my works to show me. I felt it was very amusing; I really enjoy the student era, and to be able to study again, it feels like I have entered the classroom again. When I first started to study, it was very hard to understand teacher and the lesson, so I had to hire a translator to help me translate during class. The teacher felt it was very exaggerated, and was like, "where did he come from, so superior." I said that I really couldn't understand, but finally, I was able to slowly understand. All the experiences I had, I felt pretty happy. Thank you!
