The idea behind Anson Hu's new EP Red Songs is simple and straightforward enough: nostalgia. The Mando-pop singer-songwriter hailing from Shanghai intended to pay homage to the "revolutionary songs" a generation of Chinese people before him grew up on, which have become part of the memories of that bygone era, but still have their inspirational qualities nowadays. Anson chose four such numbers and gave them a modern rendition, cutting this record to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China, and more importantly, as a present to his parents, who in their youth used to sing these songs with much passion.
